Chick Pea Veggie Burger

Ingredients:

1 540 ml can chick peas
1/2 cup cilantro
1/2 cup gluten free oats
1 medium red onion
4 cloves garlic
1 tbsp tomato paste
1 tbsp maple syrup

1 tsp cumin
1 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
Salt & pepper

Instructions:

Dice up onion and garlic & add to food processor, along with all other ingredients.

Blend all ingredients together.

We wanted to try using the smoker for this recipe so I wanted to patties a bit on the wet/ soft side because the smoker removes a lot of moisture (same as the oven) but if you are going to fry them, you could add a small amount of additional oats to dry the patty out a bit and help it hold when flipping.

Roll out small ball of the patty mixture with hands and press into shape, then place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper to prevent sticking.

Place in smoker or oven at 350 for roughly 40 minutes. Checking them periodically.

Serve topped with your favourite dressings, tomato, onion, sprouts and wrap in a large lettuce leaf.

* note I buy the 540ml canned chick peas however if you are using a standard 398ml can size reduce your oats to 1/3 cup instead of 1/2.
